GEOTEX® Nonwoven geotextiles
GEOTEX® Nonwoven geotextiles are made from the highest quality polypropylene staple fibers and needle-punched to form a dimensionally stable fiber network and include fabrics for separation and stabilization, subsurface drainage, filtration, and cushioning. This family of nonwoven products offers proven performance, is compliant with AASHTO/NTPEP standards, and is available in a variety of styles to fit your specific project needs and specifications.
APPLICATIONS
Separation / Stabilization Ideal for paved and unpaved roads, GEOTEX® nonwoven geotextiles increase the performance life and/or reduces the overall thickness of the road section by requiring less aggregate during construction.
Filtration GEOTEX® nonwoven geotextiles provide superior hydraulics and soil retention, making them ideal for filtration in subsurface drainage systems and beneath hard armor systems.
Environmental / Waste Management GEOTEX® environmental nonwoven geotextiles are manufactured with consistent thickness and weight to provide cushioning and protection for critical lining systems.
Orange Barrier Fabric Highly visible GEOTEX® nonwoven barrier fabrics signal workers with bright orange color to prevent further excavation in areas that may have buried contaminants or other dangers.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
- Reduces aggregate thickness in roadwork
- Mitigates dust in unpaved roads
- Provides excellent cushion protection
- Separates aggregate from soil, extending road life
- Resists biological and chemical environments normally found in soils
- AASHTO/NTPEP Certified
GEOTEX® for Separation
GEOTEX® FOR SEPARATION. The most common use of geotextiles beneath paved and unpaved roadways is to provide separation between dissimilar materials. GEOTEX® nonwoven is made from the highest quality polypropylene staple fibers and needle-punched to form a dimensionally stable fiber network. Nonwoven geotextiles are available in a variety of styles to deliver the best performance possible.
SEPARATION/STABILIZATION
Geotextile separation is defined as the introduction of a flexible, porous textile placed between dissimilar materials so that the integrity and function of both materials can remain intact or be improved (Koerner, 1994).
Paved and unpaved roadway applications are stabilized when a geotextile is placed at the subgrade/aggregate interface. When the aggregate is compacted over the top of a geotextile, the individual stones are “seated” making impressions in the geotextile and the subgrade. This interaction locks the bottom of the aggregate into a fixed position, stabilizing the aggregate layer indefinitely.
DESIGN & SPECIFICATION
GEOTEX® nonwoven geotextiles are easy to design and specify using AASHTO M-288 Specifications for Geotextile Applications. This design guideline uses classes 1-3 to determine which non-woven geotextile is appropriate for your project. Class 1 for projects where the most strength is needed for construction survivability and durability.
When a geotextile separator is not used, two types of failure can occur over time.
1. The fine-grained soils migrate into the course aggregate, reducing drainage and strength. 2. The course aggregate punches into the finegrained soil, reducing the effective thickness of the aggregate layer.
