The Tensar TriAx geogrid is the most advanced geogrid in today’s market and the result of 30 years continual innovation and development. It outperforms conventional biaxial geogrids and substantially reduces construction time and costs.
The Tensar TriAx geogrid is based on one of the most efficient, stable structural forms – the triangle. Where biaxial geogrids have inbuilt strength in two directions, with the TriAx it’s multi-directional, providing greater stability and increasing bearing capacity.
Tensar TriAx geogrid with its improved rib geometry and junction efficiency, greatly improves aggregate interlock and confinement – leading to improved structural performance of the mechanically stabilised layer. Tests included trafficking trials at the University of Nottingham and, on at full scale, at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), the Building Research Association (BRE), as well as in-house at Tensar’s own Technology Centre prove the performance improvement Tensar TriAx geogrid offers when compared with the conventional biaxial geogrid. This work was augmented by field trials and demonstrations to be assured of the real performance benefits.

Applications
Road & highways
Tensar TriAx geogrids are a proven solution for pavement reinforcement on road and highway projects and greatly extend the lifespan of the pavement. Geogrids reduce pavement thickness by up to a third without impacting performance, which lowers installation and maintenance costs. The system can be deployed quickly, making it ideal for building temporary access or unsealed roads over soft ground or for heavy vehicle loads. TriAx geogrids deliver greater savings and performance than biaxial geogrids.
Design of road pavements using Tensar TriAx is supported by TensarPave, design software available free to Geofabrics clients.
Railways
Railway geogrids improve bearing capacity on railway projects and stabilise the rail ballast and track bed, improving performance. They also limit the movement and displacement of the rail ballast so less maintenance is required over the lifetime of the railway line.
Tensar TriAx Tx190 large aperture geogrids are widely used with rail ballast and are supported by international rail research. Using Tensar TriAx as part of your rail track solution can decrease the amount of foundation material required by up to 30%, delivering real cost savings in construction.
Airport & heavy duty pavements
Tensar TriAx geogrids are used to build working platforms for airport pavements and hardstand areas, particularly where the ground is soft. Multiple layers form a stiff beam that spreads heavy loads over a larger area, reducing differential settlement. In some cases two or three layers of geogrids may be required.
Advantages
The interlocking structure of a Tensar TriAx geogrid gives it greater strength and endurance. Its outstanding performance is supported by extensive traffic trials in the UK. Using triaxial geogrids also saves on costs in terms of sub-base and aggregate requirements.
Tensar TriAx geogrids triple the load capacity on road and highway projects. They are easily deployed and available nationwide. Tensar geogrids are cost-effective and have a proven performance record in New Zealand and Australia.

Installation
The installation of Tensar TriAx geogrid is straightforward with the geogrid able to be rolled out directly over the subgrade having removed any major protrusions such as rocks or tree stumps. Typical road aggregates are used with Tensar TriAx geogrids for constructing temporary or permanent roads and highways, working platforms and gravel raft foundations.
