The earliest woven geotextiles were crafted from slit tapes. These tapes were woven at a 90° angle to create a robust textile. Due to their smooth surface, they are not ideal for water retention and offer limited soil interaction, making them less suitable for civil engineering applications, especially in wet conditions.

Over time, advancements in high-performance woven geotextiles have resulted in more effective materials. These improvements have enhanced flow rates and interaction capabilities, making them highly suitable for civil engineering applications by providing functions such as separation, confinement, and reinforcement. Filtration and drainage capabilities have also been significantly improved.

Common applications for woven geotextiles include under driveways, parking lots, residential streets, and highways. They have proven effective in stabilizing weak or undesirable subgrade materials, offering long-term separation and stabilization.

When installed and specified correctly, woven geotextiles enhance performance, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and extend lifespan.

Monofilament Fabrics

Woven monofilament geotextiles are used in specialized applications where a combination of high strength and effective filtration is required. Unlike standard slit tape constructions, woven monofilaments consist of individual filaments woven together in a screen-like pattern.

These products offer various opening sizes to match soil characteristics, combining high strength with effective drainage. They are commonly used under concrete mat systems and in high-flow drainage channels where strength and drainage efficiency are critical.

Benefits of Woven Geotextiles

  • Strength: High tensile strength enhances stability.
  • Prevents Intermixing: Effectively prevents mixing of aggregate and soil.
  • Reduced Production Time: Cuts costs and saves time during installation.
  • Improved Stability: Enhances road performance and minimizes pavement rutting.
