GeoFanDrain® BC (plastic blind drain, also known as a French drain, rubble drain, blind ditch, or under drain), is a subsurface drainage system composed of a thermoplastic resin core and filtering cloth.
The core is formed by extruding and welding plastic strips into a three-dimensional network structure, available in various shapes such as rectangular or round with holes or hollow centers.
Compared to traditional blind ditches, it offers superior drainage, pressure resistance, light weight, and flexibility, reducing labor intensity and improving efficiency. It is widely used in highway subgrades, retaining walls, landfills, roof gardens, foundations, and underground irrigation.

GEOFANTEX has an on-site manufacturing Quality Assurance Laboratory at the factory. GEOFANTEX maintains a high level of quality and up-to-the-minute results on finished products through a fully equipped, well-staffed, dedicated laboratory existing in each of the manufacturing facilities. Each facility follows the same guidelines for evaluating the quality of GEOFANTEX products and is capable of adapting to market-driven requirements.
A. Objective
The objective of the GEOFANTEX Quality Assurance program is to define the implementation of basic manufacturing quality assurance (MQA) procedures necessary to ensure the consistent production of quality products supplied to the geosynthetic market. Note that at this time, these procedures are limited to GeoFanDrain® BC.
B. Scope
In order to achieve GEOFANTEX’s stated purpose, a rigorous set of minimum standards and an effective test program to assure compliance have been established. These procedures and requirements are frequently reviewed and adjusted to assure compliance with current market demands and/or predetermined project specifications. These procedures assure that raw materials and process parameters are controlled to provide products complying with GEOFANTEX’s pre-defined minimum characteristics.

GeoFanDrain^® BC PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION

A. Roll Numbering

Each roll ofDrainage Board B is assigned a unique roll number. The Quality Assurance Laboratory maintains records documenting the raw materials and resulting product quality information.

B. Approval Procedure

Results for each tested roll of the product are checked against both GEOFANTEX China standard and customer specifications for compliance. The Quality Assurance Laboratory approves those materials that meet these requirements for shipment.

C. Non-Conformance

Material that does not meet GEOFANTEX minimum standards is given a roll number but is rejected and not placed into inventory. The material is identified as scrap and will not be utilized. Material that meets GEOFANTEX minimum standards but does not meet a stricter customer specification is not allocated to that customer but is placed into inventory as GEOFANTEX standard material.

D. Documentation

Individual Quality Assurance Certificates are generated and supplied for each roll of GeoFanDrain® BC product to include all relevant quality assurance information about the material(s).

General Installation Guidelines

GeoFanDrain® BC, also known as three-dimensional drainage board or composite geodrain, is a drainage material made from high-pressure polyethylene or polyolefin polymers. Its core is a three-dimensional mesh of hot-melt plastic filaments welded together, wrapped with a non-woven geotextile filter membrane. Available in various cross-sections, including rectangular, hollow matrix, and circular hollow, it is resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, ageing, and adaptable to soil deformation. The following are the installation steps.

Step 1: Construction Preparation

Clean the construction area from debris and sharp objects, ensuring the base layer is level.
Inspect the plastic blind ditch to ensure the core is intact and the filter fabric is intact. Prepare the connecting fittings and backfill materials.

Step 2: Trench Excavation

Excavate the trench according to the design requirements. The trench slope must meet the drainage slope (generally ≥0.3%), and the trench width and depth should be compatible with the blind ditch pipe diameter and backfill thickness.

Step 3: Blind Ditch Laying

Lay the blind ditch naturally along the trench in the direction of drainage to ensure a clear core. Use sockets or specialized connectors to connect the ditch to the blind ditch. Ensure the filter cloth is tightly overlapped at the joint to ensure continuous filtration and drainage.

Step 4: Filter Layer Installation

Lay a 5-10mm gravel filter layer (≥10cm thick) at the bottom of the trench and around the blind ditch, or a geotextile filter layer as required by the design, to prevent soil from clogging the blind ditch pores.

Step 5: System Inspection

Inspect the blind ditch connection, filter layer, and backfill quality. A simulated water injection test can be performed to verify drainage and ensure there are no blockages or leaks.

Step 6: Backfill and Fixing

First, cover the blind ditch with fine sand or other suitable soil material to a thickness of ≥5cm. Then, fill and compact the soil in layers to prevent direct mechanical impact. If laying on a slope, use fixings to assist in positioning and prevent shifting.
